Garden River: Residential School Survivors Initiative

Garden River First Nation

December  2021 – Current

The Shingwauk Residential School lies on Trust Lands managed by Garden River First Nation. It is important that the Survivors from Garden River who went to the Shingwauk Residential School and the Wawanosh Home for Girls be honoured. Garden River is guided by principles of Weweni and Bebeka that teach us to be very careful and take the time needed to do things right. Garden River also recognizes the need for clarity, direction, and collaboration in the area. The initiative entails working with Survivors to uncover the truth and find unmarked remains on the school grounds.
