Anishinaabe Aki Kakendamowin – Phase 1

January 2019 – March 2020
Project entails Phase 1 of the proposed twinning of Highway 17 across Manitoba and Ontario, being undertaken by the Niiwin Wendaanimok Partnership, a group of Anishinaabe communities in northwestern Ontario, including Washagamis Bay First Nation, Niisaachewan Anishinaabe Nation (Dalles), Wauzhushk Onigum Nation (Rat Portage), and Shoal Lake 40 First Nation. Narratives’ role on the project is leading the Anishinaabe Aki Kakendamowin (“The Anishinaabe know our lands”), a study documenting historic and current land and resource use. Phase 1 focuses on the twinning from the Manitoba-Ontario border eastward up to Highway 673.
