Dakota Tipi First Nation: Residential School Survivors Initiative

This initiative aims to locate, document, maintain, and commemorate burial sites associated with former residential schools where Dakota Tipi Members may have attended, respond to family wishes to commemorate or memorialize their losses and the children’s final resting places, and support the healing needs of the community. The purpose of this initiative is to carry out Archaeological Overview Assessment and Ground Penetrating Radar (“GPR”) Field Survey of the grounds in the vicinity of the former school sites will be carried out to find unmarked remains. The project will be led by the Survivors and Elders of Dakota Tipi.
