Kashechewan IRS Survivors Initiative – Phase 1
Kashechewan Cree First Nation
November 2022 – Current
Survivors from KCFN attended the St. Anne’s (Fort Albany) Indian Residential School (“St. Anne’s”), and the Bishop Horden Memorial Indian Residential School (Moose Factory) (“Bishop Horden”). Currently, Fort Albany is leading the searches at St. Anne’s, and Moose Cree First Nation will be leading the search at Bishop Horden (pending funding approval). While both Initiatives are committed to outreach and provision of updates, KCFN will need to secure its own funding to be able to effectively participate in the process, in addition to working with its Survivors who may have gone to other residential schools. Narratives will be supporting KCFN with engagement and capacity building within the initiative.
School of focus: Borden Hall Indian Residential School and St. Anne’s Residential School
